Finally, A Bird!
I wish we didn't move into the house in the beginning of winter. It's like torture not being able to enjoy our house during summer -- not being able to enjoy our grape vines, our pond, our yard(!), our patio, etc. I got antsy and did whatever can be done the earliest in preparation for summer. I'd filled the bird feeder in hopes that I might see a bird or two, and though I knew it was probably too early, I hoped and I figured that whenever the birds did come back from the south or were finished hibernating or whatever it is they do in the winter and were hungry, I'd be ready for them. So today, after nearly a month and a half of looking out of my kitchen window at bird feeder with no birds on it, I caught a glimpse of not one, but two birds feeding! -- and also, a small glimpse of summer.

Maybe you should hang the bird feeder....
Mom
Haha... it is hung. But I guess from the angle in the photo it looks like it's on the ground.
It's kind of difficult to see, but I think it's a red crossbill. Sometimes it takes birds a little while to find a feeder, but now that they have, you should have more regular visitors.

The feeder has been here with the previous owners, so hopefully they kept it full! I'm sure they did, they seemed like nature people. Now I just wait!
